Heather’s Top Ten Pins (5-17-2013)

Top Ten Pins

I’ve been spending a lot of time on Pinterest lately (big shock there) and not a lot of time creating things myself. Don’t worry, I’m about to shift it into overdrive for Whitney’s baby shower – but until then, here are my “top ten pins” from this week! Enjoy! Don’t forget to follow me on Pinterest!

Humblebee and Me Sleepy Time Pillow SprayHumblebee and Me Sleepy Time Spray – I have been having a really rough time going to sleep lately. I guess that’s what happens when your mind goes and goes and goes constantly?! I’m seriously contemplating making some of this spray to see if it helps calm my brain!

I Shih Tzu Not t-shirtI Shih Tzu Not T-shirt – Okay, I couldn’t actually find where this t-shirt originated from, but can I just tell you that it caused me to bust out laughing in my office? (So what, I take 5 minute Pinterest breaks sometimes).

Chalkboard Fonts150 Chalkboard Fonts – Now you guys know that I love my fonts, so imagine my squeals of joy when I found this pin! Soon I will have them ALLLLLLL.

Orange-Julius-Popsicles

Orange Julius Popsicles – Whitney and I LOVE Orange Julius. Unfortunately, they don’t really exist anymore – so the closest I’ve been able to find is a dreamsicle snow cone OR a Sonic orange cream slush. The Sonic slush is probably the closest we’ve been able to get to the OJ flavor, but now I’m going to have to try these bad boys!

Embroidery Initial Necklaces

I just love these Embroidery Initial Necklaces – they are just so cheery and fun, how could you not like them? I have a “thing” for initials, so maybe it’s just me – but I love these!

I mean, yeah, I made this – but it’s true. Maybe I’m way late on this, but have you seen this site? I am in love. I had a blast making different signs, and my favorite was this one!

BBQ Chicken Mini Pizzas 1

Kevin and I love BBQ Chicken Pizza – so why wouldn’t we love these too? I’ll be putting these on the grocery list as soon as I get back from…

Gateway Arch St. Louis, Missouri

St. Louis. Yep, I’m going back. This time for a full week! I’m still trying to decide what I want to do on my time off, so if you live in St. Louis help me out! A reader suggested the Botanical Gardens, so I hope to make it there this time! 🙂

Cherry Lemonade Slush

I am a sucker for cherry lemonade/limeade all year round. Imagine my smile when I cam across this recipe! We might be having these all summer long.

Ah, Roeshel, one of my blogger idols. She’s got great taste (I mean, come on, she loves Gilded Pesto too)! Now I’m going to have to copy her… sometime… when I have somewhere to put this!

Well, those should hold you over for a few days. Heck, it’s the weekend – why don’t you make some of these?!

Heather’s Favorite Fonts – Part One of Many!

So I bought a new laptop for myself because my old one is getting, well, old. The “c” key only works if I punch it really hard, and it’s just slowing down.

Probably because I have about 5,000 fonts on it. Yes, five thousand. (And that’s a low estimate – that’s only the last time I checked). If you’re a font nerd like me, you understand my love for them.

I’ve been wanting to do a post like this for a long time, but never got around to it – now, though, I’m starting to think about switching over to the newer, younger laptop and I’m debating whether or not to take all my fonts with me. What am I talking about, of course I’m going to move them over! That’s just crazy talk.

This will most likely be the first of several font posts, so I hope you enjoy! I’ve listed where you can download the fonts at the bottom, along with a tutorial on how to install fonts! Have fun! (PS: They’re all freeeeeeeeee!)

Silhouette Name Frame

Silhouette Name Frame | RCHOTX

This project started a long time ago – as in, 18 months ago. We were having a craft weekend at Brittaney’s old house near College Station, and some of the natives were getting restless and needed to have some retail therapy (not me, I was deep in crafting something). They took a field trip to the nearest Hobby Lobby and found the motherlode of clearance frames. Of course, I had to have one for the bargain price of $7 (I think!) and I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it.

Of course, I didn’t do it until today.

The first step (and usually the one that takes the longest for me) was picking out a font. I’m embarrassed to tell you how many fonts I have – okay, I have 4,193 – because I have a PROBLEM. It’s an addiction, people. There is no such thing as font rehab, so I will suffer through it. I finally picked one (for my fellow font nerds, it is Copperplate Deco Light and it can be downloaded for free at this link) and now that the project is finished, I know I made the right choice.

Next up was picking the paper. As Tarah can attest, I have a LOT of paper. (Tarah has more than I do, though). I knew I wanted to go with green, but I also knew that I would need six sheets of the same paper since my last name has six letters. I ended up having 8 sheets of pretty spring green cardstock – surely 8 would be enough, right?

Bad Silhouette Blade | RCHOTX

Yeah, maybe not. I wasted two sheets before I got smart and googled, “Why in the hell isn’t my Silhouette cutting cardstock correctly?” Well – Lisa Barrie to the rescue. I found the help I was looking for AND a new blog to read. Funny how that happens! After changing out the blade (which involved searching several places in my craft room for the “blade ratchet” for the newfangled Silhouette blade) and adjusting the cut settings, we were good to go. Finally. So now that I had wasted two sheets, that left 6. I needed all 6 to be perfect.

Much better cut | RCHOTX

Now that’s what I’m talkin’ ’bout. (Please ignore the glitter on the mat. Glitter IS the herpes of the craft world, you know).

Measure ten times cut once | RCHOTX

After measuring the frame 5 times and cutting the letters, I laid them out to make sure they would all fit before I stuck them on for good. Luckily, they fit perfectly!

Spacing out the letters | RCHOTX

Now for the fun part.

Vellum Tape Runner | RCHOTX

I cut everything out, and didn’t really think about how I was going to attach the letters to the board. Brittaney had covered the board backing in burlap (say that ten times fast) when I GOT the frame, so that was already done for me. I knew I didn’t want to use glue (too messy), and I knew I didn’t want to use spray adhesive (stinky, messy, AND I am running really low on it). Vellum tape runner to the rescue! It is flexible/movable and doesn’t show underneath. These tape runners are great and this one has actually lasted a really long time! I did not cover the whole back of the letters or the swirls – just a few little spots on each one to make sure it would stick to the burlap and that’s it!

Once I cleaned the glass and dusted the frame, I was finished. I love it, love it, LOVE IT and am so happy with it.
